PROBUS is a Retired Professional and Business Men’s Club where those who have had a measure of responsibility in such fields as commerce, education, industry and government get together in their retirement in a social environment.

Probus clubs are autonomous and their activities vary considerably. The Probus Club of St. Austell is one of the oldest having been founded in 1970. It has over seventy members most of whom are active and meets on the first Wednesday in each month at the Britannia Inn for a lunch followed by a short presentation by a guest speaker.
Occasional additional events are organised including ladies’ luncheons and trips out. Members’ costs of belonging are kept to a minimum although the Club does make a contribution to guest speakers’ nominated charities.
Although membership is by invitation we welcome approaches from anyone who meets the criteria. Just drop us an email on the Contact Form or call the Secretary and we will arrange for a member of the Committee to meet up with you.

Unfortunately our plans to celebrate our 50th anniversary last July with a Ladies’ Lunch had to be put on hold owing to the pandemic. We are looking forward to a better later than never occasion as soon as possible.

Subject to the planned release of Covid restrictions in the Government road map being achieved, it is the intention to start up again with a lunch at The Britannia Inn on Wednesday 14th July. The Britannia have asked us to avoid our usual first Wednesday in the month because they expect to be very busy during the Euro Football semi-finals. We will revert to first Wednesdays from August.

This first lunch will be followed by an Extraordinary General Meeting to conduct the business held over from the cancelled November 2020 Annual General Meeting.

Members will receive a letter in early June with meal details and an agenda.
